Drosophila melanogaster:

Class: Insecta
Order: Diptera
Familiy: Drosophilidae
Genus: Drosophila
Species: Drosophila melanogaster
Common name: "fruit fly", "vinegar fly"

Another widely used organism on biological research, specially in genetics. Its name comes from the Greek: drosos (dew), phylia (love), melanos (black, darck) y gaster ( belly). The adults lay eggs on decomposing plant tissue, in which acetic acid is a common breakdown byproduct.
