The name of the family Pentatomidae is originated on the antennae segmentation. From the Greek pente (five) and from the Latin tomus, and this from the Greek tomos (part, division).

Common name: "fruit fly", "vinegar fly"

Another widely used organism on biological research, specially in genetics. Its name comes from the Greek: drosos (dew), phylia (love), melanos (black, darck) y gaster ( belly). The adults lay eggs on decomposing plant tissue, in which acetic acid is a common breakdown byproduct.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Saccharomyces cerevisiae:
Common name: "beer yeast".
Microorganism used as model in many fields of biology. The name is composed by two words in Greek an Latin: In Greek, saccharos means sugar and mykes means mushroom, but in a broder sense is understood as fungus. In Latin cerevis es beer.
